New Africa Archives is dedicated to the
message of Our History, Black history real history for those studying their
culture. We wish to promote OwStory in an enjoyable and spirited way, as
we explore the elements that came together to define us as the great people
of Endurance, and fighter's for justice. We begin in America in Slavery, then
moves towards reconstruction and the black codes that were established, the
next period we cover is the separate but equal rights, to the placement of
Jim Crow laws. To the period of equal rights amendments, and to the signing
of the Civil Rights Act.

Richard Allen, the founder
and first Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, was born a slave
on February 14, 1760 on the Benjamin Chew estate. Deeply religious from an
early, age, Allen was converted at the age of 17. He began preaching in 1780
and was ordained in 1799.

Frederick Douglass (1817?-1895),
the most prominent African American orator, journalist, and antislavery leader
of the 19th century. Douglass, an escaped slave, campaigned for the end of
slavery. In later life he continued to work for full civil rights for blacks
and held several government positions.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
(January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968), was one of the main leaders of the American
civil rights movement. He became a civil rights activist early in his career.
He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955-1956) and helped found the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference (1957), His efforts led to the 1963 March
on Washington. Here he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement
and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history.
